A. K. Hangal: Early Life
Abdul Karim Hangal was born on 1st February 1914 in Peshawar, British India. His father, Fazal Rahman Hangal, was a cloth merchant. Hangal completed his education from Edwardes College in Peshawar and graduated in 1933. He then moved to Bombay and started working as an accounts clerk for the Bombay Port Trust.
Hangal had a passion for acting and he eventually made his debut in the theatre in 1945 with the play, ‘Ranadundubhi’. He then went on to become a part of the Indian People’s Theatre Association, or IPTA, in Bombay and worked in many plays.
