Kishore Kumar was an iconic Indian film playback singer, actor, lyricist, composer, producer, director, and screenwriter. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential singers and actors in the history of Indian cinema. Kishore Kumar’s Life
Kishore Kumar was born on 4 August 1929 in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, India. He was the youngest of four siblings. His father, Kunjalal Ganguly, was a lawyer and his mother, Gouri Devi, was a housewife. He started singing at the age of five, and by the age of ten, he was singing for All India Radio. He studied at the Krishnagar Government College in Bengal and graduated with a degree in Economics and Political Science.
Kumar was married four times. His first marriage was to Ruma Guha Thakurta in 1950, which ended in divorce in 1958. He then married actress Madhubala in 1960, but she died in 1969 due to a heart condition. His third marriage was to Yogita Bali in 1975, which also ended in divorce in 1978. He then married his fourth wife, Leena Chandavarkar, in 1980 and remained married until his death in 1987.
Kishore Kumar’s Career
Kishore Kumar started his career as a chorus singer in 1945. He gradually rose to prominence as a playback singer in Hindi films. He sang in several languages including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Malayalam, Odia, and Urdu. His most popular songs include “Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si”, “Roop Tera Mastana”, “Mere Sapnon Ki Rani”, “Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana”, “O Mere Dil Ke Chain”, and “Khaike Paan Banaras Wala”.
